Funeral services in Red Bluff

For our team, it all begins by listening to you. Give us a source of inspiration—such as a favorite song, catchphrase or vacation destination—and our expert funeral directors will weave these elements into a personalized memorial tribute. Our flexible reception space makes a perfect private retreat for immediate family members after a service or a warm gathering space for friends to reunite in celebration.

At Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flowers, we believe each service should reflect the special qualities of the individual we're honoring. Personalized services can include distinctive music, a photo gallery, memorabilia displays, military honors, processionals, or releases of doves, balloons and butterflies. From video montages to floral arrangements, your imagination is the limit.

History

The century-old tale of Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flowers directly parallels the expansion of the American West, with roots as old as our Red Bluff community itself.

Original funeral home location

W.C. Fickert Memorial Chapel opened on Main Street as Fickert Furniture Store and Undertaking, formally licensed on September 1, 1929. Arthur Hill Fickert obtained Embalmer’s License #477 on January 1, 1916. The earliest records indicate that the 1st person entrusted to W.C. Fickert Memorial Chapel passed away on December 23, 1928. In 1964, W.C. Fickert and Sons received an achievement award commending 100 years in business and later relocated to 705 Jackson Street.

Tax receipts indicate Victor V. Desrosier operated Desrosier Mortuary as early as April 1, 1934. George Hoyt purchased the funeral home, originally located at 904 Walnut Street. Later, the Cole family took ownership.

Records indicate that Chapel of the Flowers served families as early as October 18, 1882. On December 10, 1973, W.C. Fickert Memorial Chapel’s address was legally changed to 816 Walnut Street as each funeral home merged to become Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flowers.

Expansions and modern amenities

The current location of Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flowers was erected in 1941 and expanded soon thereafter. In October 1995, owners Dennis and Sandy Cole directed that parts of the original structure would be torn down and a new building erected. The building’s footprint expanded to 13,500 square feet, with a beautifully landscaped courtyard leading to a new front entrance recessed from one of the busiest streets in town.

Today, the remodeled foyer leads to a reappointed, fully accessible building with 1 dedicated visitation room and 3 arrangement offices. Vaulted ceilings arch over original stained-glass windows depicting local country scenes from Red Bank Road, beautifully designed by local artist Jack Graham.

Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flowers is conveniently located on the corner of Jackson and Walnut streets in Red Bluff. It is our privilege to personally tour you through our historic and hospitable facility.
